How to use TrailCam Insights
Get your trail-camera photos in and start hunting the forecast — from a computer, straight off your phone, or with the app installed on your home screen. Any camera brand works.

Upload from a computer (PC or Mac)
Pull the card, copy the photos, drag them in. Works with any trail-camera brand.
- Take the SD card out of your trail camera and put it into your computer's SD slot — or into a USB SD-card reader if your computer doesn't have a slot.
- Open the card and find the photos.
Windows: open File Explorer → click the SD card (often “NO NAME” or your camera brand) → open the DCIM folder.
Mac: the card appears in Finder under Locations → open it → open the DCIM folder. - Copy the photos to a folder you'll remember (e.g. Desktop → “TrailCam”), so you're not uploading straight from the card.
- Sign in to TrailCam Insights at trailcaminsights.com and open Upload (add or pick the camera you're uploading for).
- Drag the photos onto the upload area — or click it to browse and select them — then choose the camera / property and start the upload.
- Let it process. Each photo is read (date, time, temp), the animal is AI-tagged, and weather is matched automatically. Then open your Dashboard and Forecast.
Tip: you can select a whole card's worth at once — hold Ctrl (Windows) or ⌘ (Mac) and press A to select all, then drag them in together.

Upload from your phone (SD card reader)
No computer needed — read the SD card straight into your phone with a USB-C card reader.
You'll need an SD-card reader that plugs into your phone's USB-C port. Here's an inexpensive one that works with both Android and newer iPhones:

Get the reader
iPhone iOS · Safari
- Insert the trail-cam SD card into the reader, then plug the reader into your iPhone's USB-C port (iPhone 15 and newer). Older Lightning iPhones need a Lightning card reader.
- Tap “Allow” if iOS asks to let the app/site access the reader.
- Open trailcaminsights.com in Safari and sign in, then tap Upload.
- Tap the upload area → “Browse”, then in the Files view choose your SD card under Locations → open DCIM.
- Select the photos you want and tap Open — pick the camera / property and upload.
Android Android · Chrome
- Insert the SD card into the reader and plug the reader into your phone's USB-C port.
- Tap the USB / “Allow access” prompt if one appears.
- Open trailcaminsights.com in Chrome, sign in, and tap Upload.
- Tap the upload area → “Files”, then choose the USB drive / SD card and open the DCIM folder.
- Select the photos and tap the upload — pick the camera / property and you're done.
Prefer to move them first? You can copy the photos from the reader into your phone's Photos/Gallery using the Files (iPhone) or My Files (Android) app, then upload from there.

Install TrailCam Insights as an app
Add it to your home screen so it opens full-screen with its own icon — like a native app, no App Store needed.
iPhone / iPad Safari
- Open trailcaminsights.com in Safari (it must be Safari, not Chrome).
- Tap the Share button — the square with an up arrow — at the bottom (or top) of the screen.
- Scroll down and tap “Add to Home Screen.”
- Tap Add in the top-right. The TrailCam Insights icon appears on your home screen.
Android Chrome
- Open trailcaminsights.com in Chrome.
- Tap the ⋮ menu in the top-right corner.
- Tap “Install app” (or “Add to Home screen”).
- Tap Install / Add to confirm — the icon lands on your home screen.
Windows / Mac Chrome · Edge
- Open trailcaminsights.com in Chrome or Edge.
- Click the install icon in the address bar (a monitor with a down arrow), or open the ⋮ menu → “Install TrailCam Insights.”
- Click Install. It opens in its own window and can be pinned to your taskbar or Dock.
Once it's installed Any device
- Open it from your home screen / Dock like any app — it launches full-screen.
- Sign in once and it stays signed in.
- Uploading, dashboard, and the forecast all work exactly the same as in the browser.
